The Trump administration has been increasingly supportive of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, a move that could have significant implications for the Middle East peace process.
The thing is… I’m not surprised by the US’s stance on Israel’s settlements in West Bank. It feels like another example of prioritizing power over people and stability. Have we learned nothing from the past? What’s the point of even calling ourselves a champion of human rights when we’re complicit in perpetuating inequality? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-Israel or pro-Palestinian – I just think it’s high time we stopped playing favorites and started valuing justice. We’re not even close yet… to creating a world where all people have the same opportunities.
As I was saying, the US’ support for Israeli settlements in West Bank is just another example of how our country values power over people and stability. It’s like we’re saying that as long as Israel has a strong military presence in the region, we don’t care about the suffering of Palestinians under occupation. Have we learned nothing from history? Just because some countries have the power to shape global events doesn’t mean they should be allowed to do so at any cost… and all this while we’re supposed to be fighting for democracy and human rights around the world. As I see it, this move is a major blow to the peace process in the Middle East… (trails off)
We need to stand up against the Israeli government’s actions in West Bank - it’s not just about power, it’s about morality. We must not forget that human rights violations are being committed and people are suffering because of this move. I understand the US government may have their reasons for supporting this, but we as individuals should hold our leaders accountable for their actions. This is a slippery slope and if we allow it to continue, where will it end? ‘The struggle is real’ - let’s make sure our voices are heard.
