New York City INYPD Commissioner has confirmed an attempted attack using explosive devices that could have caused serious injury or death, which is now being investigated as ‘ISIS-inspired terrorism’. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Back in my neighborhood growing up, we saw a lot of senseless violence and tragedy. The pain never really goes away; it just simmers beneath the surface until something like this happens again.
As I was saying, when they call these acts “ISIS-inspired terrorism,” what does that even mean? Are we trying to downplay or cover up the systemic issues at play here?
We can’t keep pretending that poverty and lack of opportunities don’t lead people to radicalize. We need to address those root causes if we want any real change.
And yeah, I know some folks might say “just focus on ISIS” but let’s be clear: their ideology is a symptom of our own failures as society…
“The thing is… we can’t keep ignoring these incidents and pretending they’re isolated events. If you know what I mean.” The more we brush them off as ‘ISIS-inspired terrorism’ without really addressing the underlying issues, the more fertile ground we give to radicalization. We need real solutions, not just a label that lets us feel good about ourselves for a few hours before moving on with our lives. How do we create change? What are your thoughts on this?
