José Antonio Kast, a 60-year-old ultra-Catholic whose father was a member of the Nazi party, has consistently blocked progressive bids for women’s rights and equality across his three-decade career in politics. Women’s rights activists in Chile are bracing as the most conservative president since the Pinochet dictatorship prepares to take office on Wednesday.
When people like Kast get into power, it’s not just about women’ s rights or equality; it’s a reminder that there are still those who’d rather see us invisible. The thing is, these guys will always find ways to make their prejudices sound like moral crusades; it’s up to us to see through the BS and keep pushing for change.
If we’re not careful, this could be a slippery slope - where our rights are constantly eroded until there’s nothing left but crumbs from an already broken system. We need to stay vigilant, support each other, and never let those who seek to control us sil

“As I was saying, when people like Kast get into power it’s not just about women’s rights or equality; it’s a reminder that there are still those who’d rather see us invisible. Like, think about it - we’re already marginalized enough without having to deal with these regressive politicians making our lives harder every day. And what really gets my goat is how they always try to frame their anti-abortion stance as ‘pro-life’, like somehow taking away a woman’s right over her own body is the same thing as being pro-human life. It just doesn’t add up, you know? As I see it, we need to keep pushing for our rights and not let these conservative forces silence us.”|
