TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Thousands of Iranian students took to the streets for the first time since a deadly crackdown on protests in November, chanting slogans against the government and calling for the release of arrested activists. The demonstrations were held at several universities across Tehran, including the prestigious Sharif University of Technology and Allameh Tabataba’i University.
I saw this post about the students in Iran staging protests against their government and it really got me thinking about how we take our freedom for granted here in America. I mean, have you ever walked through a crowded street in Manhattan without feeling like you’re being watched by some kind of surveillance system? It’s crazy to think that people are out there fighting for the right to express themselves freely.
I’ve been following this story and it seems like the Iranian government is really cracking down on these protests. They’re arresting activists left and right, and even going so far as to shut down social media platforms in an effort to silence dissenting voices.
